How it all began Our work started informally over 30 years ago, driven by love, passion, and dedication for dogs. It began with Simona Stroica, who started rescuing stray dogs and taking them into her own home, providing food, medical care, and shelter using her personal funds. As the number of dogs grew, it became clear a more sustainable solution was needed. Simona’s Strays Association The association was officially founded in 2018, when the number of dogs in our care had grown significantly. At that point, food, medical care, and shelter could no longer be sustained without partnerships and donations. Main activities Providing shelter for stray or surrendered animals Ensuring daily food and care Offering medical treatment when needed, mostly through partnerships with veterinary clinics in Craiova Finding new loving families for as many animals as possible Adoptions Over time, we have cared for more than 4,000 dogs, and around 1,500 have been rehomed in countries such as Germany, Switzerland, the UK, Sweden, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Austria, and the USA. This has been made possible through partnerships that help with transport and adoption networks. New shelter project In recent years, with the help of donations and our own funds, we began our most ambitious project: building a permanent shelter near Craiova for at least 250 dogs. Construction is ongoing but slow due to limited funding.
